Hello! Happy New Year!
It's been a while, I know. The post kickstarter work on Wild Nature was intense! But it’s finally done, and I’m onto my next, HER HARDBOILED HEART.
Here’s what it’s about (and some teasers of the art):
Her Hardboiled Heart is set in a dark world of private espionage, where 'Operators' do the jobs that fall outside the remit of British police and secret services. And Paul is never more at home than when he's lighting fires in that darkness.
Until one operation goes too far. Paul is being hunted and, to keep him safe, he's given a new job: to watch a beautiful woman - Estelle.
Just watch.
Paul quickly disobeys orders to insert himself into Estelle's life. To save her.
But Estelle isn't all she seems. In fact, Estelle's in trouble because Estelle is trouble.
And she's the exact sort of trouble Paul loves to get in.
It starts as watching, but soon turns into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse across London’s rain-slicked streets.
Espionage, subterfuge, hate and history. Someone lit a fire. Who’s going to burn?
If you loved DECADES’ bleak, noir vibes, this is definitely going to scratch that itch.
If you loved the complex characters of Wild Nature, this is going to light you up. Ahem.
I’m releasing it in three parts this year, each with exclusive covers by some really brilliant artists. I’ll only be selling these through Kickstarter, so it’s the only way you’ll get the book.
Because…
I’m stepping back from comic conventions this year
Last year was one of the hardest I’ve ever had personally, professionally and in comics. I was exhausted pretty much all the time.
Trying to do a day job, live my life, exercise, and run a small comics business was too much. So I had to decide what to let go.
And the easiest target is comic conventions. They take up a big chunk of my weekend, it can be really hard work, and revenues are unreliable con to con.
Really, I’d rather make comics than be at comic cons.
So right now, I’ve cancelled anything I’d agreed to, and I won’t be applying for anything other than Thought Bubble in November.
I’ll see how I feel in the summer, and look at what 2025 might hold. :)
Thanks for hanging around as always.
David
Oh my! What a preview.
Very much looking forward to this one.
